National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) launched a new research Institute named Bioproduction Research Institute on the 1st of April, 2010. After careful reviewing process and discussion, former two Institutes have been merged into one that focuses bioscience and bioengineering research fields.

植物をホストとしたバイオものづくりの研究開発を進めています。植物でしか作れない生産物を中心にしつつ、医薬品になりうるタンパク質や二次代謝物の大量生産も手掛けます。

Environmental IssuesWe are exploring and utilizing the physiological and ecological functions of microorganisms to develop technologies for the decomposition of environmental pollutants and the effective utilization of underutilized biomass resources.

BioproductionWe analyze microbial and plant resources using molecular biology, biology, and information science techniques, and apply them to high-functioning and highly efficient substance production.

Primary IndustryWe are developing various technologies to support primary industries, including crop functionalization, suppression of plant diseases using microorganisms, aquaculture technologies focusing on inter-species interactions, and freezing techniques utilizing bio-derived antifreeze proteins.
